This design took the features of the Kawasaki W1 and W1SA motorcycles of the late 60's and in the early 70's. In general, the design was an unimproved version covering the areas of both comfort and stylish aspects. It got a new seat and the tank pads enhanced riders comfort in all its performance. The steering geometry and the front suspension were also revised. The W650's cylinder and the engines, churns out plenty of low and average power range and also there were procedures of the piston rising and falling. The modernized four valve cylinder gives the W650 a perfect to-end which is very efficient in its undertakings.

Its other features include its lightweight and a balancer shaft that helps in the elimination of vibration. Apart from these features, the W650 is cleaner than the latter machines which inspired its initial design. It has the Kawasaki Clean Air (KCA) system that handles such proceedings.
